Honey is nature's sweet treat.
Honey is 25% sweeter than sugar.
Honey was man's very first
sweetener.
Honey is most often found in three
forms:
- Comb
- Liquid
- Creamed
Human beings need honeybees to
pollinate our food supply. One third of the foods that we eat is directly or
indirectly dependent upon honeybee pollination. Without honey bees we would
have fewer almonds, melons, oranges, cherries, apples, cranberries, peaches,
lemons, and pecans.
Honey naturally crystallizes over
time. To re-liquefy, remove the lid from the container it is in and place
the container in warm water (110 degrees) until the crystals dissolve.
Honey can be substituted for up
to one half of the sugar in most recipes. Substitute 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of
honey for each cup of sugar. For baked goods, reduce the liquid in the
recipe by 1/4 of a cup and add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda for every cup of
honey used. Reduce the recipe oven temperature by 25 degrees.
When measuring honey spray the
measuring cup with non-stick cooking spray before measuring.
12 oz of honey is equal to 1
standard cup.
